It’s a lonely job…
“What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever said?” asked the Boy.
“Help”. Said the Horse.
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse: by Charlie Mackesy
Leading an organisation, however big or small can be a lonely existence. There’s an expectation of a CEO. You have to be visionary. A leader. Unflappable. Decisive. Engaging. Have all the answers.
But the reality is…there is no CEO playbook. You started something because you wanted to make a difference. Not because you wanted to be a CEO. (Or you got parachuted into the job at a critical time and the pressure is on.) But as things develop. You find yourself employing more people. Responsible for targets. Answerable to a board or funders. With ever-increasing pressure to make it work and grow.
Help is out there. But, because you’re pedal to the metal. Focussed on delivery. You can’t see the woods for the trees.
And you don’t ask for help.
Because you can’t show vulnerability.
You are the CEO.
How daft is that!! We’re taught as we grow up to always ask for help. Never bottle things up. But that’s exactly what we do. And I should know. Because that’s what I did. Because that’s what I thought I had to do. I had to lead from the front. Be the answer. Make it happen.
Well, times have moved on….and if you want to be successful. To grow your impact and make a real difference. You have to be prepared to get all the help you can. Be unapologetic about it. Look for it.
If you want a confidential, no strings attached, conversation. Then we’re happy to help.
Is this a way to get business? Unapologetically YES.
But does it come from the right place? YES
Is it because we want impact entrepreneurs to be the best they can be? YES
Because we need people like you to be ultra-successful.
For people and planet.
